Investigative Question or Issue: How does the Lake
Placid region compare with other regions of the world selected as
locations for the Winter Olympics?
Challenge:
Context for this Challenge: This
Challenge is designed to be a culminating activity for a unit of study
on reading and understanding maps. It provides students an opportunity
to apply map skills and to compare and contrast geographic and man-made
features.
Students should have the background knowledge necessary to write
sentences to compare and contrast. They also need to have skills in
technology to construct a power point.
Challenge: Create
an informational powerpoint, brochure, or news release
article comparing and contrasting the geography and man-made features
of at least 3 past winter olympic locations. You must included Lake
Placid representing a North American location, the other locations must
be one from Europe and one from Asia
