Investigative Question or Issue: What is interesting to see or hear in the natural environment around our school?
Context:

Your class of students has received the following letter that is written on birch bark and addressed to them:

Dear (teacher's name),

While out on a nature trail walk, our class found this interesting piece of birch bark. This led to a discussion of our school's nature trail. We would like your students to create a coloring book for us that identifies a minimum of two unique features of the environment that can be seen at each station on the nature trail. Each illustration will need to be in an outline form that can be colored in and should include a caption that complements your illustration. Inviting your parents in to help you out in your groups would be very beneficial.

Upon completion of your book, we would like you to take us on a informative tour of the nature trail and verbally explain each station to us. You should plan on spending no more than five minutes explaining your station and answering questions the students may have.

We appreciate your efforts in completing this task for us.

Sincerely,

Your kindergarten buddy readers
