The teacher should introduce this challenge to the students before they conduct their research so they know what kinds of information they will be looking/listening for. In addition to hearing from Dan Berggren, students may need access to additional resources regarding the history of the Adirondacks during the Revolutionary War.
Note from the author: This song is being composed to become part of a Flag Day ceremony that completes the fourth graders research in to early American history. It will be sung and presented with a stage presentation each year.
After hearing from your guest speaker, work together as a class to create a song that tells something of the important history of the Adirondacks during the Revolutionary war. Your song will be sung on Flag Day as part of a school celebration.
It is important that your song convey important and accurate information about the Adirondacks during this period in history. It will help if your song is entertaining, easy to understand, and easy to remember. It might make it easier for you if you set your original lyrics to a popular melody that everyone knows. Make sure the lyrics fit the melody.
