In small groups of 3 or 4, create a model of an Adirondack river (or section of a river) that is close to our town. Th emodel may be 3-dimensional or a 2-dimensional graphic representation. As you construct your model, please be sure it cinlcudes the following:

- Physical characteristices of the river (waterfalls, oxbow, tributaries, meanders, wetlands, floodplains)

- At least three different animal habitats described or depicted

- The town(s) along the course of the the the river are named

- An indicator of scale

- An indicator of compass directions

Once you have completed your model, please prepare a presentation in which you share information about your model with an audience selected with the help of your teacher. The presentation should be clear and easy to understand. It may take the form of a lecture, a play, a song, a story, or a poem. All group members are expected to take part in the presentation in some way.

Please make sure your presentation includes all of the following:

- Name of the river

- Name(s) of the town(s) along its course

- Identification of the source and mouth of the river

- The direction of the river's flow -

The length of the river

- Information regarding at least two different ways that people have used the river either in the past or present

- A description of the important physical characteristics of the river as depicted in the model - A description of the animal habitats depicted in the model

- An explanation of any environmental threats posed to this particular river

You will have 5 class periods to complete your model and 5 class periods to work on your presentation.
