Students and teachers, from 5 school districts converged
at the
Wild Center, in Tupper
Lake, to demonstrate and share their Adirondack projects with each
other. Participating schools: Tupper Lake, Newcomb, Indian Lake, Lake
Placid, and Potsdam.
The teachers had all created "Adirondack Challenges" - student
centered, activity-based lesson plans that focus on both New York State
Standards and learning about the Adirondacks.
Projects included Adirondack Haiku poetry, a display about winter
recreational activities in the Adirondacks, a display about the
diversity of animals found on the grounds of Indian Lake Central
School, a puppet show about Adirondack animals, student designed games
that helped students learn how to identify animal tracks, a project
that involved raising trout in the classroom, mock interviews with both
living and historic Adirondack people, and student designed and
illustrated storybooks about Adirondack animals.
